Trophic Ecology of Deep-Sea Megafauna in the Ultra-Oligotrophic Southeastern Mediterranean Sea

چکیده
The trophic ecology of fourteen species demersal fishes and six decapod crustaceans from the continental slope rise Southeastern Mediterranean Sea (SEMS) was examined using stable isotope analysis. Mean δ 13 C values among fish varied by ca. 4.0‰, -20.85‰ ( Macroramphosus scolopax ) to -16.57‰ -16.89‰ Conger conger Centrophorus granulosus ), showing an enrichment in as a function depth (200 – 1400 m). showed smaller variation, between -18.54‰ Aristeus antennatus -16.38‰ Polycheles typhlops ). This suggests shift pelagic regenerated benthic carbon sources with depth. Benthic regeneration is further supported low benthic-pelagic POM-δ values, averaging -24.7 ± 1.2‰, mixing model results, presenting relatively contribution epipelagic POM deep-sea fauna. 15 N crustacean ranged 7.91 0.36‰ 11.36 0.39‰ 5.96 0.24‰ 7.73 0.46‰, respectively, resulting position estimates, occupying third fourth levels. Thus, despite proximity more productive areas shelf, number levels (TL~1.0) narrow isotopic niche breadths (SEA <1) were observed for (TL = 2.94 0.18) 3.62 0.31) study area probably due ultra-oligotrophic state SEMS limited sources. Our which provide first description megafauna SEMS, offer insight into food web structure ecosystems oligotrophic marginal seas, can be used ecological modeling support sustainable management marine resources deep Levantine Sea.

Trophic ecology of deep-sea Asteroidea (Echinodermata) from eastern Canada
Asteroids (sea stars) can be important predators in benthic communities and are often present in ecologically important and vulnerable deep-sea coral and sponge habitats. However, explicit studies on the trophic ecology of deep-sea asteroids are rare. We investigated the diets of seven species of deep-sea asteroid from the bathyal zone of Newfoundland and Labrador, eastern Canada. A multifacete...
متن کاملEcology of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria along an oligotrophic gradient in the Mediterranean Sea
Aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic (AAP) bacteria are photoheterotrophic prokaryotes able to use both light and organic substrates for energy production. They are widely distributed in coastal and oceanic environments and may contribute significantly to the carbon cycle in the upper ocean. To better understand questions regarding links between the ecology of these photoheterotrophic bacteria and t...

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
